As one of only a handful of Black business owners in West Hollywood, Jonathan has seen firsthand how access and opportunity don’t always reach everyone equally.Jonathan believes the city can do better—not by changing its values, but by making sure those values show up in ways people can actually feel. He has worked on issues of equity and opportunity through the Social Justice Advisory Board, and he brings a perspective shaped by both lived experience and real-world problem-solving.As a Black LGBTQ leader and small business owner, Jonathan understands that West Hollywood’s strength comes from its diversity—but that diversity has to be reflected in who has access, who has opportunity, and who is being heard.He’s running to make City Hall more responsive, more practical, and more grounded in the day-to-day realities people are facing—whether that’s supporting small businesses, expanding opportunity, addressing public safety and infrastructure concerns, or making sure working people can build stable, secure lives in West Hollywood.

Jonathan Wilson is running for West Hollywood City Council because he believes the city should work for everyone who calls it home—not just in theory, but in everyday life.He grew up around public service and journalism, where he learned early on that representation matters—but also that good intentions don’t always lead to real results. That perspective has stayed with him.

Jonathan now runs a business that helps business owners either grow their businesses or sell their businesses in way that allows their legacy to continue and protects the workers. He often describes his work as being a “doctor for businesses”—helping CEOs navigate challenges, allow their employees to shine, and build brands that lasts. Through that work, he’s seen how difficult it can be to operate in systems that aren’t always built with people in mind—and how decisions impact not just business owners, but the workers who rely on those jobs.That same challenge shows up here in West Hollywood. Small business owners struggle to get clear answers or move things forward. Residents are dealing with rising costs, infrastructure issues, and concerns about safety. And too often, the people most impacted by decisions at City Hall don’t feel like they’re part of the conversation.He’s also seen the real pressures people are facing in West Hollywood—from small businesses struggling to stay open, to residents dealing with rising costs, to concerns about safety and quality of life. Those experiences are part of what pushed him to step forward and run.

We need a stronger public safety program focused on enhanced technology with a true plan to implement, accurate reporting on crime statistics, tighter controls within the Sheriff's Department, and enhanced coordination between the multiple public safety programs. I'm growing weary of reading countless headlines about people being held at gunpoint, attacked on the streets, shootings, and mob fights in the streets.I have been working with our city staff and making suggestions directly to the Public Safety Commission for the past five years with some suggestions being implemented. However, we need an end-to-end review, where we can truly identify strengths and areas for improvement.

A Safer WeHo

Our residents have been struggling with affordability. Let's stop the delays that are preventing our ability to meet the moment of people paying affordable rent prices. Let's stop leaving development in the hands of state laws that our residents struggle to understand and make the effort to truly articulate how West Hollywood intends to apply state laws and / or create alternative plans.I'm currently a renter in West Hollywood in a rent-controlled apartment, but I also know what it's like to own property. Renters and property owners have a significant amount of common interests, especially within our 1.9 square miles.

We need to create enhanced incentives that not only motivate businesses to thrive in West Hollywood, but also engage other businesses within the city so that everyone can grow together. Incentives should be win-win-win scenarios and ultimately will create a thriving micro-economy within West Hollywood. For almost a decade, we have been seeing empty storefronts, witnessing long-term businesses close, and watching industries choose areas outside of West Hollywood to thrive. It's time to pivot!I'm currently a business owner and have been noticing a focus on only a subset of businesses. We must begin to think about the bigger picture and how businesses can help one another.
